On July 1, 2023, Maryland’s cannabis laws are changing from Medical Use only to adult Recreational Use. This means our Trulieve community of patients and plant lovers is about to grow! We realize that existing patients and new customers alike may have questions, so we’re here to guide you through this exciting time with answers to commonly asked questions.
Where can I purchase legal marijuana?
Beginning July 1, Maryland residents may purchase cannabis from licensed dispensaries including our established locations:

Do I need an ID to purchase marijuana?
Yes, to purchase marijuana, you must be 21 years of age or older and present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID to prove your age. We accept the following:
- State Driver’s License (from any state)
- Non-driver’s State Photo ID card
- US Military ID Card
- US Passport
- US Passport Card
- Foreign Passport
- Tribal Card
What about my medical card?
If you are a medical marijuana cardholder, your Trulieve retail experience will remain the same as before. Medical cardholders are not subject to the 9% tax imposed on recreational marijuana purchases.

Can Trulieve deliver marijuana to me?
At this time, delivery for adult use customers is not allowed.
Can I smoke marijuana anywhere I want?
Sorry friends, not so fast! Marijuana cannot be smoked in public.
What about driving under the influence?
Always follow the law. A driver cannot be under the influence of any form of cannabis while driving any motorized vehicle, including a moped, motor scooter, motor bike, watercraft, or motorized boat. No occupant of a motor vehicle can smoke cannabis in the passenger area of a motor vehicle.
Can I get in trouble at work for having marijuana in my system?
Even though marijuana is legal for recreational use, employers still have the right to maintain a drug-and-alcohol-free workplace. However, registered qualified medical marijuana patients do have some employee protections against discrimination.
I was previously convicted of possessing marijuana, does this law change anything for me?
Yes! An important part of the state’s new guidelines is the expungement program. For cases involving simple possession of marijuana as the only charge, the state will automatically expunge those records from its criminal records database by July 1, 2024. If you do not wish to wait, you can apply for immediate expungement if your case qualifies. For more information on the process, visit Maryland Judiciary's expungement page.
Did you know, under Maryland law come July 1, you can grow your own cannabis for personal use?
The details are this: A licensed dispensary may sell up to two actively growing plants or seedlings to an adult use consumer; and up to four actively growing plants or seedlings to a qualifying patient age 21+ or to a registered caregiver. If two or more qualifying patients who are at least 21 years old reside at the same residence, not more than four cannabis plants may be cultivated in that residence. Trulieve offers special sales of clone plants at your local store, so stay tuned for details on how to get yours!
The next opportunity to buy Trulieve clones is coming 7/1. A limited batch of 25 plants will be available for $25 each first come, first served, at Maryland locations.
What Can I Expect When I Go to Trulieve for Recreational Marijuana?
Here’s a simple outline of what a recreational marijuana customer can expect from Trulieve.
Outside the shop, you’ll be welcomed by a line leader who is there to guide recreational, medical, and pickup customers to the right place. The line leader will have forms and menus ready for customers as well. Customers can make a profile while waiting in line, and we will quickly verify the details once you are through the door.

In-store, helpful budtenders can help you shop for and choose the best form of cannabis to meet your needs. Once you’ve selected your purchase, our team will assist you with a smooth checkout, including proper labeling and childproof bags.
