The Story of Delisioso

In the world of cannabis, Richard DeLisi’s journey from prisoner to cannabis entrepreneur is nothing short of inspiring.

Once the longest-serving non-violent cannabis prisoner in America's history, Richard’s story is one of perseverance, hope, and an unwavering commitment to cannabis reform. Now as the founder of his own high-end cannabis brand, Richard’s business acts not only a means for providing premium products, but as a catalyst for meaningful change.

From Tragedy to Triumph

Sentenced in 1989 to serve 90 years in prison for his cannabis-related conviction, Richard was released after serving 32 years, thanks in large part to the efforts of the Last Prisoner Project. His release in December 2020 marked a new chapter of his life that would be dedicated to a single mission: fighting for legal cannabis reform and the freedoms of those still incarcerated.

A Brand with a Mission

A legacy forged in adversity, Richard DeLisi’s journey is proof that the fight for justice for prisoners of prohibition doesn’t end with personal freedom. It’s a fight that extends to those still awaiting theirs.

With Richard at the helm, the foundation of DeLisioso is built on more than selling premium cannabis products. It’s a brand that acts as a conduit for the mission towards cannabis reform. And as the brand grows, so does its impact. Because for Richard, cannabis will never be just about business, it’s about creating a future where no one else endures what he and so many others have experienced at the hands of unjust cannabis incarcerations..

That mission is gaining even more momentum with Santa Marta Gold, an upcoming documentary produced and directed by Nate Hammer in collaboration with the DeLisi family and industry pioneers Steve DeAngelo and Kyle Kushman. Through raw and powerful storytelling, the film addresses the glaring disparities in cannabis laws across the country and the hypocrisy of a system that continues to keep thousands incarcerated for nonviolent cannabis offenses while allowing the U.S. government to profit billions in tax revenue.

Partnering for Progress

With such a strong commitment to cannabis advocacy, it was truly fitting for Trulieve to partner with Richard DeLisi in 2022 and seize the opportunity to work with those who hold the same values. In fact, the choice couldn’t have been easier. Expanding access to – and sharing the story behind – these incredible quality products, the partnership helps amplify Richard’s mission.

Through Trulieve’s own unyielding commitment towards cannabis reform and our proud partnership with organizations like the Last Prisoner Project, our advocacy efforts to helping put an end to the injustice of cannabis criminalization is an ongoing force. It’s because of Richard Delisi and people with stories like his that this industry has evolved into what it is today.

Now, patients devoted to the plant – and the cause – can experience the satisfaction of premium cannabis with a purpose.
